Trolley Square was a mall that was just a couple of blocks away from the state capitol and Temple Square. It started out as a trolley car barn back in the early 1900s, and it turn dint a shopping center when the 1970s rolled around. It was called a historic site by Utah in 1973, and it was put on the National Register of sites that were historic in the mid 1990s. Trolley Square used to be one of the most frequently-visited shopping destinations, and it was the second most-visited tourist destination in the city too. Trolly Square is a great name for a mall too. It’s simple to remember, and you just can’t forget it. It’s hard not to think about that name when you’re thinking of the mall to go to in your area. You want to make sure that you’re choosing a great name for a mall when you choose it.
There was a Spaghetti Factory, some stores for art, a taffy salesman, a movie theater, and there were a lot of major chains there. It was almost 90% occupied there when it was purchased back in 2006. They did a huge reconstruction and renovation project, and they were trying to add an anchor-tenant building, and about 150 residential condominiums too. There was a lot of housing around this area, and it was perfect for a mall to start in. There are a number of great spots for malls, but when you can get a mall near a lot of residential housing, then you’re in the money. All those individuals and families will be back there to shop to just get their shopping done easily and without any hassle. It’s so simple and refreshing to be able to get all the shopping done in one place without having to go to several separate stores. It’s awesome to be in just one mall to do all your shopping.
The renovation was made more prominent with a national shooting spree that happened, and it left five shoppers killed, and it led to many stores closing. A lot of the stores left the mall.
The mall is currently under some renovation. There was almost as much space that was walled off with some “Changes Happening” signs as there was space that was occupied by the different stores there.
It’s not apparent yet whether the completion of the renovation will get the occupants back in the stores, and bring the mall back to life, but the dying mall seems to be going the way of the dinosaur right now.
It’s interesting that there are so many malls out there that seem to die out for sporadic reasons. For instance, a major shooting spree spelled the end for Trolly Square, and they weren’t around anymore shortly after that. There are also lots of other reasons for malls closing. Malls close all the time for weird reasons. Like, some of the stores may have been robbed or vandalized. If the shops are local, they may just not want to be around there anymore.
